The University of Venda (UNIVEN) has partnered with Mukonazwothe Career Support Group, a non-profit organisation (NPO), Limpopo Department of Education, and industry leaders to host a much-needed, week-long career exhibition and education campaign for high school learners around the Vhembe District Municipality and nearby areas.

The exhibition and education campaign will take place at the University Sport Hall from 23 – 27 September 2024, starting at 08:00 am. It is estimated that more than 2000 learners around the District will benefit from this campaign.

The Limpopo Province, as a rural province, does not have enough opportunities for its high school learners compared to urbanised and industrialised provinces, such as Gauteng. Therefore, it is essential that UNIVEN and Mukonazwothe joint venture to provide professionals across all sectors, within the private sector, and education specialists to fill that gap.

Dr Takalani Dzaga, University of Venda Director of Marketing, Branding and Communication, says “The University of Venda and Mukonazwothe’s partnership is aimed at empowering grade 11 and 12 learners with the much-needed support of transitioning from high school to tertiary level with the correct information to make the right choices. Making lifelong decisions, such as choosing a career path, is a crucial part of the lives of young learners in desperate need of life and career guidance.

“Research indicates that the lack of career guidance for underprivileged groups in high schools can infringe on skills development, complicate or lengthen the transition to post-school education and training, and limit livelihood prospects,” says Aubrey Matsila, the Director of Mukonazwothe Career Support Group

UNIVEN and Mukonazwothe are coming up with a platform that can be future proof among its plethora of purposes, providing learners with guidance, consultations, and answers needed by learners to map a way that will lead to fruitful career choices. Learners are expected to be exposed to various things to consider before choosing a career path. Learners will participate in multiple career roundtable discussions and engage with industry leaders within the public and private sectors, who will be on hand to lend a hand and assist students in answering their various questions.
